Armed with the courage of his convictions, Londoner Amir Farahi<\/strong>, Executive Director of The London Institute, has launched an on-line petition, No to London, Ontario becoming a Sanctuary City, which has caused a sea of controversy in the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt some point, we have to stand up to the politically-correct, social-constructivist, post-modernist society that we have today<\/strong>. If you oppose an idea that doesn\u2019t meet the agenda of those who call themselves \u2018progressives\u2019 \u2013 especially if you are male and white \u2013 you are automatically \u2018privileged,\u2019 you are automatically a \u2018white supremacist\u2019\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care how politically risky it is. I will stand firm.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

On today’s Just Right, Amir shares some of his experiences in having become London Ontario’s principal and principled voice against the city’s motion to become a “sanctuary” for those fleeing the United States. Politically precipitated by US president Trump’s travel\/immigration restrictions against seven nations <\/strong>(among them, Iran), Amir objects to London\u2019s setting up any kind of \u201csanctuary\u201d \u2013 from just laws.<\/p>\n

An Iranian immigrant himself, Amir has found himself opposed by various “Marxist organizations<\/strong>,” including members of the Occupy Movement, Solidarity Across Borders, No One Is Illegal In London, and even a fan of Vladimir Lenin who accused him of being a ‘traitor to this country’ for opposing the sanctuary proposal. And of course, there\u2019s the usual gang of city hall politicians and administrators who regularly seek sanctuary from the opinions of their voters.<\/p>\n

In a city gone \u201cFull Vladimir<\/strong>,\u201d public meetings turn into events geared towards indoctrination, intimidation, and confrontation, not open discussion. Committed to creating this climate of fear, the fear mongers themselves accuse those who disagree with them \u2013 of being fear mongers! In their war against reason and reality, the very idea of sanctuary has been twisted into something that is its exact opposite.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sanctuary: “Maybe we made a mistake in using this word,” suggested London city Councillor Harold Usher at the public meeting last Thursday. <\/p>\n

Ironically, he could be Just Right about that.<\/p>\n
