First published in 1943 at a time when the United States was at war with Germany, Italy and Japan, Isabel Paterson\u2019s God of the Machine<\/strong> clarified one of the greatest and most fatal of misunderstandings about the nature of government and governing. Contrary to prevailing belief and opinion, countered Paterson: \u201cIt is a mistake to say that \u2018Government is Force.\u2019 Force is what IS governed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this regard, no more powerful words have ever been spoken. The great political choice facing mankind is, and always has been, whether that Force should be governed by the Left or by the Right \u2013 or by both. At the heart of this moral dilemma lies the answer to why Western society has been so radically drifting towards the Left.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In our continuing discussion about Left and Right, we have already clearly demonstrated that fascism in all its forms is a direct manifestation of the Left<\/strong>, and will continue to do so on over the course of today\u2019s presentation. But beyond the continual misrepresentation that fascism sits on the \u2018Right,\u2019 there are still many other popular misinterpretations of the \u2018political spectrum\u2019 that require remedy.<\/p>\n

One in particular is the notion that the Left \u2013 Right \u2018spectrum\u2019 represents a gradual transition from \u2018Extreme Force\u2019 on the Left, to \u2018Degrees of Force\u2019 in the \u2018middle,\u2019 and finally to \u2018No Force\u2019 on the Right. Unfortunately, this has become a popular viewpoint of many \u2018libertarians\u2019 and \u2018Objectivists\u2019 who knowingly or not are at odds with the fundamental nature of Objectivism.<\/p>\n

Once again, this viewpoint has fallen into the trap of believing that an imaginary \u2018center\u2019<\/strong> or \u2018middle\u2019 of a \u2018spectrum\u2019 exists, which is simply not the case. The error is amplified by juxtaposing the Left\u2019s \u2018Extreme Force\u2019 against the Right\u2019s \u2018No Force.\u2019<\/p>\n

Both in theory and in practice, there is no such thing in politics as \u2018degrees of force,\u2019<\/strong> no more than there are \u2018degrees of death or pregnancy.\u2019 One is either resorting to force or one is not. And it\u2019s inescapable that when it comes to force itself, both the Left and Right represent \u2018Extreme Force.\u2019 Like it or not.<\/p>\n

The question is not a matter of \u2018degree.\u2019 It\u2019s a matter of whether that Force is being used to violate individual rights, or to defend\/protect them. And you don\u2019t need a \u2018degree\u2019 to understand the distinction.<\/p>\n

The truth about \u2018Force\u2019 is that, in the defense of Life Liberty and Property, using it justly is always Just Right.<\/p>\n
