The \u2018right\u2019 to an abortion or the \u2018right\u2019 to life? Given polarized views of life, death, and individual rights &#8211; the abortion controversy is perpetual.  <\/p>\n<p>Whatever one\u2019s view on the subject, <strong>the idea of \u2018celebrating\u2019 abortion as one might celebrate life has forced the issue back into the spotlight.<\/strong> In a skit that has arguably \u2018crossed the line,\u2019 comedienne Michelle Wolf&#8217;s recent &#8216;celebration of abortion&#8217; (The Break \/ Netflix) was not particularly funny in the view of many. <\/p>\n<p>Wolf\u2019s skit reflects the Left\u2019s nihilistic view of life, suggest Danielle and Robert in their consideration of the moral and ethical issues involved: \u201cnormalizing abortion by making it heroic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Calls for the outright prohibition of abortion have long been associated with the Right, particularly since those calls have been seen to originate from the so-called \u2018social\u2019 conservatives. In contrast, \u2018fiscal\u2019 and  \u2018pragmatic\u2019 conservatives prefer to leave the abortion issue off the political table entirely \u2013 while \u2018progressive\u2019 conservatives would fully support a Leftist agenda. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>To the Left, \u201ckeep abortion free\u201d is generally a call for government to provide free abortions on demand<\/strong> \u2013 paid for by taxpayers who have no freedom in the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Though rarely heard from conservatives, <strong>to the Right, \u201ckeep abortion free\u201d<\/strong> would properly represent a call to keep personal decisions about abortion free <strong>from \u2018political\u2019 interference \u2013 not free from objective laws otherwise established to enforce standards of individual responsibility<\/strong> in such matters.  That very distinction is the key to resolving many of the issues surrounding the reality of abortion in a way that is Just Right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Post Script:<\/strong> On August 17th, after only three months, Neflix cancelled Michelle Wolf&#8217;s television show or, as a poster on Twitter said, &#8220;aborted in the first trimester.&#8221; Now <strong>that&#8217;s <\/strong>cause for celebration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No matter its legal status, abortion continues to generate a polarized debate that will never be aborted.
