{"id":9575,"date":"2019-01-06T05:00:20","date_gmt":"2019-01-06T10:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.justrightmedia.org\/blog\/?p=9575"},"modified":"2019-03-05T12:59:24","modified_gmt":"2019-03-05T17:59:24","slug":"the-danielle-metz-show-042-the-manifest-observable-behaviour-of-patreon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justrightmedia.org\/blog\/archives\/9575","title":{"rendered":"DMS 042 &#8211; The manifest observable behaviour of Patreon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.justrightmedia.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/DMS-042-Do-Not-Patreon-168x100.jpg\" alt=\"Do Not Patreon\" width=\"168\" height=\"100\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9587\" \/><audio controls preload=\"none\"><source src=\"\/\/www.justrightmedia.org\/DMS\/DMS-042-190102-The-Manifest-Observable-Behaviour-of-Patreon.mp3\" type=\"audio\/mpeg\"><\/audio><\/p>\n<p><strong>Patreon<\/strong> is described by Wikipedia as \u201ca membership platform that provides business tools for creators to run a subscription content service, with ways for artists to build relationships and provide exclusive experiences to their subscribers, or \u2018patrons.\u2019&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, founder and CEO of Patreon, <strong>Jack Conte, invented an anti-concept he called \u2018Manifest Observable Behavior.\u2019<\/strong> Intended to distract attention from his own company\u2019s unjust and subjective decisions to remove certain content creators from its platform &#8211; based on little more than their expression of views that could be associated with the \u2018Right\u2019 \u2013 the inherent contradictions in Conte\u2019s use of that term soon became manifest.<\/p>\n<p>The very statement that Patreon\u2019s \u201cdecision to remove a creator page has absolutely nothing to do with politics and ideology and has everything to do with Manifest Observable Behavior\u2026\u201d is a manifest admission that it\u2019s all about ideology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Manifest\u2019<\/strong> means \u2018obvious, plainly apparent.\u2019  <strong>\u2018Observable\u2019<\/strong> means \u2018capable of being observed.\u2019  <strong>\u2018Behavior\u2019<\/strong> means \u2018the way a person, substance, or machine ACTS under given circumstances.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Yet no observed \u2018action\u2019 on the part of content creators is cited in Patreon\u2019s unannounced \u2018de-platforming\u2019 of those content creators.  The only \u2018action\u2019 observable here is that of Patreon itself.  And through its actions, it has demonstrated that it is indeed \u2018ideology\u2019 and \u2018politics\u2019 that Patreon targets. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In its controversial decision to remove <strong>\u2018Sargon of Akkad\u2019<\/strong> from its site, only \u2018words,\u2019 not \u2018actions,\u2019 were cited \u2013 specifically the \u2018n\u2019 word and the \u2018f\u2019 word.  Both of these words are used regularly on Patreon\u2019s own platform by those on the Left, and were only used once by \u2018Sargon of Akkad\u2019 many months before its decision \u2013 on another forum unrelated to Patreon! <\/p>\n<p>Beyond its sheer irrationality, this reflects <strong>a Leftist mentality that equates the expression of words, concepts, and ideas with action itself.<\/strong>  And of course, this epistemological deception is necessary for the Left to justify its ideological claim that \u2018words\u2019 are \u2018violent\u2019 and that <strong>therefore, free speech itself is violence.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>To protect us from these \u2018words,\u2019 Patreon created an Orwellian <strong>&#8220;trust and safety&#8221; committee<\/strong> that its spokesperson, <strong>Jacqueline Hart,<\/strong> has made clear is both untrustworthy in principle and unsafe for content providers.<\/p>\n<p>The Internet is really still in a \u201cstate of infancy,\u201d notes Robert in conversation with Danielle, and suggests that new platform\/funding alternatives will soon arise to meet the needs of a growing market not fearful of free speech or of the freedom to express opposing ideas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real &#8216;f&#8217; word that scares the Left, as always, is &#8216;freedom,&#8217;\u201d concludes Danielle with an observation that strikes at the heart of the whole controversy.<\/p>\n<p>Given recent events, Patreon has manifestly revealed itself to be an untrustworthy and unsafe platform.  Irrationality, contradiction, subjectivity, censorship, denial, and deception are Patreon\u2019s \u2018manifestly observable\u2019 operating principles.
