Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau\u2019s<\/strong> Liberal government has announced a sinister plan to curb \u2018fake news<\/strong>,\u2019 political \u2018misinformation<\/strong>,\u2019 and \u2018foreign influence<\/strong>\u2019 in Canada\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n

Supporters of the Trudeau Plan, like the Globe and Mail\u2019s \u2018disinformation expert\u2019 Marcus Kolga,<\/strong> actually believe that it does not go far enough, and \u2018divisive\u2019 ideas and discussions like those about \u2018anti-immigration and anti-globalism\u2019 should be even further curbed on social media.<\/p>\n

All of this is reprehensible, and should be loudly condemned. We have one clear message for Trudeau and his fake supporters: \u201cSo fake off already \u2013 and get real!\u201d<\/p>\n

False news reports have been with us since the news itself. But as we learn on today\u2019s broadcast, the current context of the term \u2018fake news\u2019 was first introduced on October 13, 2016 in an Obama speech<\/strong> calling for a campaign to \u201ccurate information in the wild west media environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like Trudeau today, Obama declared \u2018fake news\u2019 to be a \u2018threat to democracy\u2019 and together with the explicit help of Google<\/strong>, the \u2018fake news\u2019 lie became the Clinton campaign\u2019s key strategy to discredit then-Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
\nAnd just as with Trudeau, the Democratic Party focused on curbing \u2018fake news,\u2019 political \u2018misinformation,\u2019 and \u2018foreign influence\u2019 in elections. And of course, when the Democrats and Hillary Clinton lost the election, they blamed \u2018fake news\u2019 for their loss.<\/p>\n

But nebulous floating abstractions like \u2018fake news,\u2019 political \u2018misinformation,\u2019 and \u2018foreign influence\u2019 are meaningless and irrelevant distractions. They\u2019re all BS. The really scary news is the news that\u2019s real, not fake. And the reality is that Trudeau\u2019s plan is about \u2018curbing\u2019 ideas and discussions on the Right, ideas destructive to his globalist fantasies and agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fake news aside, the Trudeau plan is an utterly unjustifiable violation of freedom of speech<\/strong>. It is anti-democratic in the extreme \u2013 just like Trudeau. And that\u2019s real news!<\/p>\n

The word \u2018free\u2019 in the term \u2018free press\u2019 refers to \u2018freedom from government\u2019 and has no other relevant application. This freedom is essential to the creation of what can be called a \u2018fourth estate<\/strong>,\u2019 an \u2018estate\u2019 independent (from government) and entrusted to be a source of information about the misuse of government powers. The \u2018fourth estate\u2019 is established as a balance and check AGAINST government powers, not a tool FOR government propaganda, as in the Trudeau plan.<\/p>\n

When governments intervene in media matters, the people no longer even have a \u2018fourth estate,\u2019 and tyranny sits at the doorstep. With efforts to curb ‘fake news’ steaming full ahead both in Canada and the United States, it’s not particularly encouraging to know that those proclaiming themselves to be the champions of the \u2018fight against fake,\u2019 are the fakers themselves.<\/p>\n

Behind all their \u2018fake news\u2019 fake fears, what those on the Left really fear are any ideas proven to be Just Right.<\/p>\n
