In a discussion that transcends its provincial boundaries, Freedom Party of Ontario leader Paul McKeever once again joins us to discuss some uncomfortable truths about voters and the democratic process itself.

“It’s a dark time in Ontario,” says Paul, in anticipation of a new round of ’emergency’ declarations following Ontario’s February 27 snap election, both on the provincial and federal levels. But never has there been such a glaringly anti-democratic Ontario election as the current hit-and-run election driven by a Ford: Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario.

In Ontario, the electoral process has become entirely corrupt. Early voting is both permitted and encouraged even before nominations are closed and candidates have been selected. Ford has demonstrated that general elections can be called on a whim, in contravention of the Election Statute Law Amendment Act, 2004. Elections Ontario, which administers Ontario elections and regulates officially-registered political parties, has in the past refused to place a fully-qualified and nominated Freedom Party candidate on the ballot in his riding. Again, rules don’t matter.

Our review of election feedback received by Freedom Party since the dropping of the writ on January 29 demonstrates that most voters, lobby groups, and the media are completely disconnected from any issues relevant to Ontario provincial politics. Even Doug Ford, in threatening to restrict trade and impose tariffs on America, is oblivious to the fact that such actions are not open to him given that they fall exclusively within federal jurisdiction.

As a ‘Progressive’ Conservative, Ford sits squarely on the Left, along with his federal ally, the Liberal Party of Canada’s Justin Trudeau. If nothing else, his ‘mind of state’ at least makes Ford a valid representative of his constituents and those who support him. It is to all parties such as his that Leftist voters appeal, with most questions being some variant of “how much will you steal for me?” as Paul bluntly puts it.

The sad fact is, that in the middle of what is a provincial election, few voters are even aware of Ontario’s jurisdictional powers or limits, concerned only with their narrow self-interests unrelated to provincial issues.

Worse, most voters, even those who say they value freedom, are not willing to stand up against the recent years of outright tyranny unleashed on Ontario by the Ford government – even as Ford promises more of the same to come. Apparently, the prospect of ‘eternal vigilance’ as a necessary prerequisite to maintaining an open and free society is less appealing than simply casting a vote for the enemies of freedom once every few years.

In Ontario, a political option on the true Right (representing freedom, capitalism, individualism, individual justice, freedom of speech) has long been absent in politics; it is in this vacuum that Freedom Party was founded. Freedom Party has never been ‘right wing’ or ‘alt-right’ or ‘far right’ or ‘extreme right.’ Since its founding, Freedom Party has always been Just Right for Ontario, while Doug Ford’s progressives have always been just wrong.
