Just as a newborn child comes into this world in a state of tabula rasa, so too are all individuals in a similar state when it comes to what political and social events will transpire in 2026.

In addition to defining ‘tabula rasa’ as “the mind before it receives the impressions gained from experience,” the American Heritage Dictionary also defines the term as “a need or an opportunity to start from the beginning.”

In the spirit of making a New Year’s resolution, this might be a good time to consider starting the new year afresh with a blank slate that first acknowledges the true political polarity of Left and Right, before attempting to form alliances among those who use these labels in ways that confuse.

As the old saying goes: “Ain’t so much what people don’t know that gets them into trouble; it’s what they do know that just ain’t so.”

This speaks to a truth about both humanity’s strength and weakness when it comes to acquiring valid knowledge. It is always possible to be wrong. And being Right requires an accurate epistemology.

The significance of this is to understand that human beings are completely ‘self-programmable’ through the use of language – which is the ‘software’ of the mind. To arrive at valid observations and conclusions, accurate definitions are critical.

In the on-going conflict between Left and Right, it appears that the political zeitgeist in 2026 will not be that different from 2025. Indeed, the infighting among those identifying as ‘Right’ continues unabated and even appears to be escalating.

Meanwhile, democracy itself remains in peril and the only hope of a recovery has to come from the Right, which itself appears to be fracturing.

Given the infighting on the Right and the constant onslaught of Leftist thinking from our elected politicians, it should not be surprising that this has led to an increasing cynicism and disdain for politics in general – mostly from those on the Right.

Politics falls behind metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics in the hierarchy of philosophy. In this proper context politics has yet to be discovered, since the Left places politics at the ‘top’ of the philosophical hierarchy. It is up to the Right to ‘put politics in its proper place’ so to speak.

When it comes to understanding the proper and positive role of politics, many are still in a state of ‘tabula rasa’ – which is perhaps preferable to being in a state of “knowing what ain’t so.”

Either way, encouraging others to discover ‘what is so’ will continue to be the weekly mission of Just Right in 2026.
