In the wake of another round of gun incidents and mass shootings both in Canada and the United States, the issue of gun control and prohibition has inevitably raised its irrational refrain.
For decades, statistics from numerous jurisdictions have repeatedly revealed that gun crimes are highest in ‘gun controlled’ jurisdictions. When the controls are ended or reduced, gun crime rates are reduced. Yet these facts are not considered by those who see some form of ‘gun control’ or prohibition as a preventative solution to mass shootings or gang violence.
Instead, those gunning for guns have chosen to attack our fundamental freedoms as the means of solving the problem of gun violence. From attacks on free speech to blaming video games, mental illness, and the guns themselves, the futility of pursuing such measures should be self-evident in light of the evidence.
Sadly, the realities of gun ownership in a free society are rarely discussed or raised in the gun debate. Myths abound, such as the false belief that the United States ranks highest in gun crimes and violence. Few are aware that guns in the United States have been used to prevent far more crimes than are committed. Social media arose, in part, as an alternative to the so-called ‘mainstream’ media, an empowering communication tool for individuals made possible by the incredible technology of the Internet.
With mainstream media dominated by establishment voices of the Left, it was expected that those same voices would also be dominant on the internet and on social media. But that’s not what happened.
The rise of voices on the Right on social media demonstrated that their reports and commentaries were far more reliable – and popular – than what was being heard from the voices of the Left. This presented the Left with a challenge to their narratives that was previously absent.
However, what was initially not relevant to many who participated on social media platforms is the fact that the major platforms are owned and managed by those with a leftist agenda – the ‘social media giants’ – people who apparently don’t seem to mind manipulating the truth to their advantage. So begins Professor Bruce Pardy’s presentation to the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship’s 2019 AGM.
His talk on the attempts by the Ontario government, led by Doug Ford, to curtail abuses of academic free speech focuses on the recent actions by some universities against some conservative speakers restricting their access to campus after protests by radical and sometimes violent Leftists.
Prof. Pardy’s thesis is that while the Conservative government’s attempt to prevent such biased restrictions is welcome it will not succeed due to the current state of the law in Ontario in the context of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
“If you want to change the law or influence you gotta change the culture.”

Following a dramatic turn of events, Just Right’s regular contributor Salim Mansur has joined the team of Maxime Bernier’s newly-formed PEOPLE’S PARTY of CANADA (PPC) and will be that party’s candidate for London-North-Centre as Canadians head towards the October 21 federal election. Both Salim and Maxime join us today to tell a story that you will likely not hear in the mainstream media.
Having already spent ten months campaigning to be nominated as the Conservative Party (CPC) candidate for the riding, Salim’s Conservative candidacy was rejected because his views would be considered ‘Islamophobic,’ one of many critical issues that the Conservative Party refuses to discuss. Given that Salim’s views on Islamism have long been known far and wide, it is disgraceful that the CPC allowed him to campaign on that party’s behalf for so long before rejecting his candidacy. And of course, the irony that Salim is a Muslim himself cannot be escaped.
Fortunately, Salim’s voice will not be silenced, thanks to Maxime Bernier’s principled support of freedom of speech.
What the experiences of both Salim and Maxime illustrate is that the Conservative Party of Andrew Scheer is no different that Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party. A political victory for either of those parties represents a clear loss for Canada and the Canadian people.Continue reading »

Among the new candidates is distinguished Professor Emeritus, and Just Right Media contributor, Salim Mansur of Western University who was unceremoniously “disallowed” to run for the Conservative Party of Canada.

For Leftists, what was once called the ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ has now become the new normal. Continued media criticisms of Trump on the most flimsy and unjustifiable grounds continue unabated.
Consequently, to those who are rarely exposed to real news, Trump’s positive accomplishments go unnoticed and unacknowledged. And of course, truth is displaced, resulting in a level of national ignorance and irrationality rarely witnessed on such a scale.
It’s certainly understandable that Trump’s political opponents should attempt to challenge him. But the pettiness and shallowness of their reactions to the President’s Fourth of July speech, which was a simple review of American history and the people who made America great, reveals a contempt and hatred not just of Trump, but of truth, freedom, and the values represented by America.
Rather than share in the celebration of America’s unprecedented accomplishments, the media of the Left cries out for ‘fact checks’ and highlights every misspoken syllable or word uttered by Trump. All this, while ignoring the truth of his message.Continue reading »
It appears that progressives are more than willing to sacrifice personal relationships for the sake of their “cause.” They are willing to use tragedies to attempt to score points against those who do not necessarily agree with them, even when it makes no contextual sense.
As turnabout is fair play Danielle and Robert deal with certain ad hominem attacks by one listener and personal acquaintance (friend?) of Danielle by giving him a little of his own medicine.

Former tenured Professor of Psychology at Acadia University, Dr. Rick Mehta uses his personal experience of being fired, ostensibly for his political views, to make the case that Canada’s labour laws offer no protection to academics in matters of academic freedom.
Dr. Mehta was presenting at the Annual General Meeting of the Society For Academic Freedom and Scholarship (SAFS) on May 4th at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
On the heels of a 2019 Leger Survey measuring Canada’s “Happiness Index,” pollsters revealed that while most Canadians regard themselves as being ‘happy,’ apparently Ontarians are Canada’s most ‘miserable’ people.
There has been much attention given over the years to the whole theme of happiness, how to measure it, and how to assess various national levels of happiness – as if such a measurement has some objective significance, meaning, or application. Does it? Is happiness even a ‘thing’?
In popular usage, it is clear that the word ‘happiness’ is used in differing contexts: from describing a day-to-day mood evaluation to an evaluation of life’s satisfaction.
Most dictionaries define ‘happiness’ in terms related to “the enjoyment of pleasure without pain,” – a very limited focus indeed if used as the sole standard of national ‘happiness’ measurement surveys.Continue reading »

Where did eleven Republican senators from Oregon go?
To Idaho, of course, in order to run out the clock on a punitive cap and trade proposal proposed by the Oregon Democrats who control the House of Representatives, the State Senate, and the Governorship.
They didn’t have the numbers to stop it, but they had enough numbers to prevent a quorum and therefore let it die.

Canada has had no abortion laws for some 31 years now. When U.S. vice president Mike Pence visited Canada last week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a point of raising the abortion issue with him by expressing his concern over women’s access to abortion in certain U.S. states. Many observers thought this inappropriate, given that the purpose of Pence’s visit was to promote the new trade deal between the two countries.
With recent changes to abortion laws in some American jurisdictions, a debate long thought settled is clearly not so. What has become clear after years of abortion’s availability is that it has not cured the social ills it was expected to solve.
A relatively unique characteristic of the abortion debate is that, while the issue has its extremely polarized opponents (who favor a total prohibition of abortion) and proponents (who want free abortions on demand), most people do not find themselves in either of these two camps. For most people, the availability of abortion is acceptable under certain conditions and not acceptable under other conditions.

Is veganism a creed subject to protection under the Human Rights Commission of Ontario? We may soon find out as a firefighter has filed a complaint against his employer on the grounds that his diet was not sufficiently accommodated whilst fighting a massive forest fire in B.C.. He self-identifies as an “ethical vegan” which he claims is a creed and therefore must be catered to by his employer.
What exactly is a creed and what obligations do employers have to accommodate the personal preferences of their employees?

Guilt by association is a smear tactic used by Justin Trudeau, his Liberal Party of Canada, and his loyal Canadian media. The latest attack is against Conservative Party Leader, Andrew Scheer in the June issue of MacLean’s which tried to associate him with supposed “white supremacists.”
If one were to examine Trudeau and his Liberals and use the same guilt by association attack one would find more than alleged “white supremacists.” One would find terrorists, convicted attempted assassins, and yes, even white supremacists – real Nazis.
Salim Mansur, Professor Emeritus at Western University and Just Right Media contributor, suggests that Canada deserves better than such low-handed mud slinging and demonstrates that people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
“Our students are going mad. We’ve brought them into a place where we systematically expose them to the terrors of existence,” so says Professor Rachel Fulton Brown of the University of Chicago in this public presentation which took place in London, Ontario on May 3rd, 2019.
Professor Fulton Brown makes the claim that many students do not fully comprehend that the purpose of a University is not to provide a ‘safe space’ for them to hide away from any idea which might make them feel offended but to provide a ‘sacred’ place for them to ponder the more substantive questions in life – a place to answer not just the questions of What and How but the more important question of Why.
This is the first Chris and John Furedy Lecture sponsored by the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship. Just Right was there to exclusively record the event.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement that he would introduce a ‘Digital Charter’ to protect Canadians from on line ‘disinformation’ was a chilling indictment of his government’s ideology and political objectives.
Unable to control the public narrative in his favor as he heads into a federal election, Trudeau has sought to undermine the very foundation of liberal democracy by threatening to impose “meaningful financial consequences” on social media platforms that do not censor, ‘deplatform,’ or otherwise “counter disinformation” on their sites.
To call this unconscionable would be an understatement. But given the identity politics that has defined Trudeau’s government as one obsessed with categorizing the nation’s citizens on the basis of race, color, sex, language, heritage, gender, and religion, his agenda deserves to be called that and more. With the introduction of Canada’s “Digital Charter” it is as if Justin Trudeau has taken a page out of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four— committing yet another assault on our freedoms.
Placing partisan unionists on the panel to select which Liberal-friendly media outlet should receive his bribe money to keep conservative voices from being expressed is taking a page from Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals.
In all his actions Justin Trudeau is making himself out to be a tyrant in the style of the Chinese communists which he so admires.
Salim Mansur, Professor Emeritus at Western University makes a plea to stop this full-frontal onslaught of our freedoms before it is too late and we lose that one freedom which makes all our other freedoms possible: our freedom of speech.
