In the big picture of life, viruses are perfectly normal, and we’ve learned to live with all kinds of them; cold viruses, flu viruses, sexually transmitted viruses, and the list goes on. We have learned to accept them as part of the risk we face in living life.

And now there’s the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Declared by the World Health Organization to be a pandemic, it has created a global ‘panic-demic’ unlike anything experienced by current generations.

Even though no one is running wild in the streets, many consider our ‘shut-down’ current state of affairs concerning COVID19 to be an over-reaction, a threat to our fundamental liberties, or perhaps even some kind of conspiracy created to cover up another more real threat.

It is important to note that a ‘pandemic’ only refers to a new virus affecting a high proportion of the population. It is not related to the severity of an illness, or to the number of fatalities associated with an illness. Continue reading »

Canada is in crisis. In many ways, that crisis is similar to that faced by the European Union and its recent loss of Britain as a constituent member of that union.

In this, the second part of our conversation with Dr Salim Mansur, professor emeritus of political science at Western University, we discover that the fluid dynamics of the nation-state can easily lead to alienation ‘within’ nations. When interests and common values once shared instead become a source of conflict and cause for national divisions, the resulting alienation may lead to the literal formation of alien nations.

Given the rise and fall of the nation-state throughout history, it is clear that nations are far more fragile than most people generally perceive. The temporary duration of the various political structures under which humankind has been governed or ruled throughout history merits due consideration.

With the realization of Britain’s Brexit, the subsequent shrinking of the European Union, and U.S. President Donald Trump’s popular presidency based on ‘putting America first,’ the idea of ‘globalism and a borderless world’ has suffered a serious setback.

It is a metaphysical necessity that all political organization and activity, irrespective of its nature, requires a jurisdictional structure within which all of the activity takes place. Every political jurisdiction is defined by geographic borders, nor could it be otherwise.

The various political structures under which humanity has been governed or ruled have taken many forms. Among them: an empire, a commonwealth, a kingdom, a republic, a common market, a federation, a state, a province, a union, a nation, a country, a municipality (city, town, village), a region, a territory, etc.

It is significant to note that when the U.S. president annually addresses Americans, his address is not called the State of the ‘Nation,’ but is instead called the State of the ‘Union’. This speaks to a profound distinction regarding the independent nature of the political units being so identified – and the people who live within them.

In this first of a two-part discussion with Dr. Salim Mansur (professor emeritus of political science at Western University), we are guided through a brief history of the rise and fall of nation states. The temporary duration of the various political structures under which humankind has been governed or ruled throughout history – even very recent history – merits due consideration.

In the final analysis, it appears that whatever form a particular political jurisdiction takes, there is never one that can be considered to be Just Right without the consenting support of those who live within its borders.

640 – Uncommon Laws – Britain exits the European Union

Take ten freedom-loving people, put them in a room in front of some microphones, and what do you get? Our first ever ‘Freedom Panel,’ sharing views on Brexit, climate change, and a mutual frustration with the lack of rational philosophies in politics.

At long last, Brexit has become a reality. But that development reflects a long-established British history and philosophy that has always been incompatible with that of the European nations. For that reason, many have regarded Brexit as inevitable. Founded on individualism rather than on the European collectivism that has brought the continent to disaster on repeated occasions, Britain can now once again forge its own political destiny, freed from the control of Brussels.

With the good news on the Brexit front, it’s too bad that politicians continue to ring the bells of climate alarmism, pretending to talk about the weather when what they’re trying to prevent changing is the climate of collectivism.

Ironically, it is the growing politics of populism that is beginning to demonstrate an effective defense against collectivism’s ills. Even so, many individualists and supporters of political freedom remain opposed to a populism that they see as being unprincipled. But is populism really an obstacle to freedom, or is it an opportunity for rational principles to once again become part of the political playing field?

Though our panelists have many differing perspectives on this question and other issues, one thing you can always count on is a discussion that will be Just Right.

637 – Climate Change BS — Weathering the political climate crisis

“I call it Climate Change BS and by BS – if I have to spell it out – I mean Bad Science!” concludes our guest Dave Plumb, whose book ‘Inconveniently Screwed’ describes and explains the ‘good’ science behind what we actually do know about climate change and its causes.

In the face of continuing outrageous claims about a pending ‘climate crisis,’ the real science of climate has been replaced by the fake ‘political science’ of Leftist politicians.

Since ‘facts don’t matter’ to those on the Left, the whole climate change debate can become quite frustrating for those who think that facts do matter. The relentless efforts of the Left to continue promoting their climate fiction can only be resisted and defeated by a similar relentless effort on the part of those who have the Right ideas about climate and climate change.

As always, the real climate the Left is talking about – and wants to change – is our political climate. The only consistency to be found in their arguments about climate change is a hatred of individual freedom, capitalism, and of humanity itself. Forced discussions about carbon dioxide and weather concerns are mere distractions from their evil intentions.

With one form of BS (Bad Science) being promoted via another form of BS (Bad Schools), facts are the last thing the Left wants to hear about.

Given the Bad Science being taught in Bad Schools, it would be Just Right to conclude that the politics being used to support and promote those two forms of BS is the BS of the traditional type.
