659 – Homeschooling—when state education fails the test

The COVID-19 lockdown and school closures may have unintentionally created a golden opportunity for parents to reclaim and guide the education of their children. And considering some of the outrageous post-COVID plans for our schools, keeping those schools locked down may be preferable.

Thanks to the lockdown (and in some part because of regular teacher strikes plaguing state education), politicians and state educators have actually been encouraging parents to homeschool their children until the schools re-open – whenever that might possibly be. This is ironic, given the growing state trend to ban homeschooling, as has already been done in many European nations such as Germany.

Indeed, Harvard law professor Elizabeth Bartholet has called for a presumptive ban on homeschooling in the United States, and for the state having a similar presumptive authority over parental rights. Arguing that parents are “authoritarian,” she seems oblivious to the authoritarianism of all things state-controlled and monopolized. We can expect these collectivist ideas to frame the coming debate over parental rights as we head into the future.

“The only purpose of education,” wrote philosopher-novelist Ayn Rand, “is to teach a student how to live his life – by developing his mind and equipping him to deal with reality.” If that’s so, then state education completely fails the test. Far too many dysfunctional and illiterate ‘graduates’ of state education are not even capable of apprehending reality, let alone dealing with it.

Perhaps now is an ideal time to reconsider some of our basic assumptions and attitudes towards what is being called ‘public education’ and to also re-consider the most effective schooling alternative that long preceded compulsory state education: homeschooling.

It would be Just Right by us if more parents chose to homeschool or otherwise seek alternative schooling – even if only inspired by the COVID-19 lockdown.

658- Unmasked! The hypocrisy of the left

The wearing of COVID-19 masks has become ideally symbolic of the Left’s hypocrisy thanks to the George Floyd riots and protests – public demonstrations that have little to do with either Floyd or with racism. Criminality aside, it was impossible not to notice that ‘protesters’ were neither ‘social distancing’ nor wearing masks. Crowds were massive.

Despite all their threats regarding the spreading of the SARS CoV-2 virus (ranging from fines to imprisonment), officials did nothing. The mainstream media celebrated the events.

Indeed, the very politicians and media pundits who scolded law-abiding peaceful citizens for daring to take their children to the playground or take walks in the park joined the mobs themselves and otherwise commended the ‘protesters’ for their criminal actions and evil objective – nihilism.

Professor Salim Mansur has likened the organized riots and violence to the wanton destruction perpetrated by Adolf Hitler on his own people when he realized that Germany was about to lose the war. Continue reading »

656 – Viral spiral — Spinning the COVID-19 lockdown narratives

More than being a demonstrated lifesaving treatment in fighting the COVID-19 virus (SARS CoV-2), hydroxychloroquine has now become a symbol of the fundamental political divide regarding the government-mandated lockdown.

Donald Trump’s recent announcement that he is personally using hydroxychloroquine was a direct challenge to negative mainstream media narratives about the drug. It was also a direct attack against those on the Left determined to keep the COVID-19 lockdown in effect for as long as possible, no matter how many people may die or suffer in the process.

In many jurisdictions around the world, it may appear that the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown is slowly ending, but the reality is that it is incrementally being extended – indefinitely – as politicians seek to entrench their recently exercised undemocratic powers over the rest of us. Political threats to repeatedly shut down areas of the economy on the basis of future COVID-19 statistics means that the economy may never be able to recover.

Tragically, at the root of all the shutdown strategies lies a single priority: the protection of healthcare ‘systems,’ a priority placed above that of protecting the lives of the people forced to deal with those systems. When the pandemic began, ‘flattening the curve’ to prevent hospitals from being overrun was the first and only stated objective of the shutdown. Today, the continued rationale for the shutdown is anybody’s guess, as it can change by the hour, and often does. But the priority hasn’t changed even though politicians insist their motivations are based on ‘saving lives.’

By placing the public spotlight on his use of hydroxychloroquine, Trump boldly demonstrated how ‘saving lives’ is not the goal of the mainstream media or the Left. Once again, Trump brilliantly did what was Just Right: he exposed the hypocrisy of those who claim to be motivated by ‘saving lives’ while simultaneously opposed to the use of that which is life-saving.

655 – Pandemic government and the virus of altruism

On coronavirus, the contrast between what we’ve been told by the official medical establishment and a growing number of front-line health care professionals can no longer be avoided.

In fact, it appears that much of the advice promoted by our politicians and medical bureaucrats is diametrically opposed to that being given by many doctors and virologists directly involved with, and on, the frontlines of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Most confusing are the polarized opinions regarding ‘social distancing’ and the wearing of ‘protective’ masks.

Officialdom says social distancing and physical isolation are necessary to slow the virus, while the ‘front-liners’ say that social distancing and physical isolation actually make people more susceptible, not only to the SARS CoV-2 virus but to a whole host of other viruses and potential diseases.

Officialdom says wearing masks in public is recommended for safety whereas the ‘front-liners’ argue that wearing masks is not healthy for those who wear them. This practice, too, can lead to one becoming more vulnerable to all viruses. Continue reading »

654 – The ‘not normal’ — still living under the COVID-19 lockdown

What’s being described as a possible post-COVID-19 ‘new normal’ should instead be called ‘the not normal.’

Global vaccine advocate Bill Gates insists that “Normalcy only returns when we’ve largely vaccinated the entire global population.” If so, then normalcy will never return and ‘not normal’ will be a permanent condition under which we will be forced to live.

Despite promises that a vaccine to combat SARS CoV-2 will eventually be developed, there is a growing body of expertise warning that this goal may never be reached. Among them is Doctor Judy Mikovits who works in the field of developing immune therapies: “There is no vaccine currently on the schedule for any RNA virus that works.”

For expressing these and other opinions that do not reflect the official narrative on the pandemic shutdown, many have found their voices being suppressed on social media. For example, YouTube recently removed the video featuring California doctors Erickson and Massihi from its platform, and then later removed the video featuring Dr. Judy Mikovits. Continue reading »

May 8, 2020, marks the 75th anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe — VE Day. In the intervening years between that momentous day in 1945 and today, we have seen changes both for the better and for the worse which nobody could have conceived.

Paramount amongst these changes is the way we have come full-circle from the tyranny of the Axis powers to the situation we find ourselves in today with the measures imposed upon a once-free people, not by outside belligerents but by ourselves.

Professor Emeritus Salim Mansur of Western University explains that underlying all such impositions is a reluctance of our culture to understand and embrace individual freedom.

653 – Pandemic parallels: The COVID-19 climate changer

According to a report by NewsWars (May 6, 2020) “U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres called for global leaders to ‘use the pandemic recovery’ to roll out their global climate change agenda, including allowing fossil fuel companies to collapse and using taxpayer stimulus money to fund green jobs.”

It was inevitable. COVID-19 meets climate change, two issues that have more in common than most expect. Right now, many ‘Green’ activists are in support of the politicians and health care officials who wish to extend the shut down indefinitely and thereafter maintain current state controls and regulations on all aspects of daily living.

With last week’s release of the environmental documentary Planet of the Humans, an interesting philosophical dilemma has surfaced. Produced by Left-wing environmentalists Michael Moore, Jeff Gibbs, and Ozzie Zehner, it should not be surprising that the movie is utterly anti-life and anti-capitalist. But shockingly to those both on the Left and the Right, the documentary presents a brutal and honest account of the environmental destruction wrought by ‘green’ alternate energy initiatives, particularly wind, solar, and biomass.

Given the abject environmental failure of the very initiatives once endorsed by the movie’s producers, they have now changed their tactics, identifying more with the destructive results of the state-imposed COVID-19 shutdown. Continue reading »
