The Argument Sketch

Have you ever had the feeling that some of your personal “arguments” with friends and acquaintances begin to polarize along what appear to be political divisions of Left and Right?

Take any disagreement, and one side may be right and the other wrong. Or, both sides may be wrong. Or, both sides might be correct – but “arguing” in differing contexts.

However, when facts and feelings are in conflict, watch out! And when one side in an argument uses facts to support a case, then the opposition often retorts that facts are “uncaring” and therefore, they “care” and the other side doesn’t. Which to them, is a winning argument.

“Facts don’t care about your feelings,” notes Danielle noting Ben Shapiro. You don’t have to be mean or uncaring just by insisting on sticking to the facts, she “argues” in this discussion with Robert Vaughan. Unfortunately, facts may be facts, but often do not relate to what one side in an argument sees as being relevant.

It may well be that the very nature of “argument” makes it impossible to have one in a way that “feels” Just Right for all sides.

Merry Christmas! For Christians and non-Christians alike, Christmas is that time of year for reflection, introspection, and for being a season that preserves the tradition of goodwill towards mankind.

Not a Christian invention, the practice of giving gifts, getting together with family and friends, and celebrating the birth of a new life brought into the world are universal values, enshrined by the Christmas season and shared by all peoples of goodwill.

Those very qualities can also be a source of great stress, as the absence of loved ones unable to share the season with us for various reasons become associated with a positive spirit and a great time of year.

Within the greater Christmas tradition also exist many differing personal traditions of the season. These include varying celebrations of family events, to the different music played and movies that are watched and re-watched faithfully as personal reflections of the meaning of Christmas.

Whatever your tradition at this time of year, this conversation between Danielle and Robert will affirm that when it comes to Christmas, there is no one way to celebrate Christmas that is Just Right.

[Just Right, with Bob Metz and Robert Vaughan will resume its new weekly broadcasts in the new year. Until then, be right, stay right, do right, act right, think right, and be right back here!]

Something to Fall Back On – How I Became A Failed Musician – And You Will Too

That’s the message – and warning – brought to us by our guest Scott Williams-Oakes, who speaks from both personal experience and from the experience of others who have ventured into the music industry.

It’s also the title of his new audio book, available on line for $5 at: www.swoaudio.bandcamp.com.

Any romantic notions anyone may have about becoming a “famous rock musician” or working in the music industry will certainly be dashed. The reality of being in a band or becoming a success in the music industry is extraordinarily low, perhaps only around 2% – an unofficial statistic that seems to bear out the experience of most in the business.

Co-founded by Sherlock Holmes’ elder brother, The Diogenes Club was a fictional gentleman’s club created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and introduced in “The Greek Interpreter.” Apparently named after Diogenes the Cynic, shyness and misanthropy were the two qualifications to belong to this club.

Creating so-called “safe spaces” on university campuses is reminiscent of the Diogenes Club.

In this way, the Left’s general hatred, dislike, distrust or contempt for the human species or human nature can be concretized in policies aimed against the likes of Wilfrid Laurier University teaching assistant Lindsay Shepherd or the University of Toronto’s professor Jordan Peterson.

The Left has gone so far off the deep end, suggests Danielle, that few can relate to the left any more. Lindsay will discover that all those who will come to her defense will be on the Right. And indeed, that is exactly what has been Lindsay’s experience, as recently featured on Just Right #535.

“The LEFT is eating its own and what a fabulous feast it is…” opens Danielle in this conversation with Robert Vaughan that is, as always, Just Right.

Leon Trotsky

Not all who see themselves on the Left side of the “political spectrum” actually are. Nor are many who see themselves on the Right side of that “spectrum” actually on the Right.

The true nature of the fundamental forces and ideas represented by Left and Right have been long misunderstood – both by those on the Left and Right – and this has caused a host of political misalignments that today are becoming harder and harder to ignore.

Just listen to Lindsay Shepherd and Brendan O’Neill, two voices of the Left who have come to publicly doubt their own Leftist alignments.

Lindsay Shepherd, of course, has been made famous by going public with her recent encounter with the Left at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. Brendan O’Neill, on the other hand, is a journalist who describes himself as a Marxist-Libertarian of the Left, yet expresses certain values that appear more in line with classic liberalism. Racism Sucks

Is it OK to be white? It appears to be an innocuous black and white question: Yes or No?

The Right answer, of course, is Yes. The Left’s answer, of course, is No.

The fact that “facts don’t matter” was brought home by a spoof campaign initiated by 4chan which called on its on-line audience to post signs around Boston college campuses saying: “It’s OK to be white.”

As humorously predicted, the signs were immediately labeled “white supremacist” by anti-white racists of the Left. Boston police were called in to investigate, not the racists, but “white supremacy.”

If there are any hate crimes to be investigated, they should relate to what is being taught about race and racism on university and college campuses across North America.

Perhaps the REAL issue being raised by Danielle and Robert Vaughan in this telling tale of the Left’s obsession with race is this: Is it ok to be Just Right?

Truth

It would be nice to believe that the unjust and unfounded inquisition experienced by Teaching Assistant Lindsay Shepherd at Wilfrid Laurier University was an isolated and bizarre anomaly.

Unfortunately, her experience appears to have exposed but the tip of a poisonous ideology now rampant in all of Ontario’s educational institutions. It is an ideology that holds unsubstantiated opinions and feelings as superior to facts and truth.

Just ask our guests Dave Plumb and Paul McKeever, who both have witnessed this phenomenon first hand – though from differing perspectives.

Like Lindsay Shepherd, Dave Plumb was an educational instructor / teacher who found his job threatened by an anonymous complaint. Like Lindsay Shepherd, Dave was being held accountable for the “feelings” of the unidentified complainant while simultaneously being denied any way of directly addressing the complainant’s concerns. Ignore politics at your own peril because, as the old saying goes, “Even if you aren’t interested in politics, politics is interested in you.”

Just as the reasons for getting involved in politics may be many, so too the reasons for staying as far away from politics as possible may also be many.

What makes some people intellectually stimulated by politics while others remain bored or repulsed by politics?

That’s the elusive question of the week that Danielle and co-host Robert Vaughan tackle in this exchange of personal anecdotes and experiences. It appears that no matter where you sit on this question, there is no one perspective that is Just Right – unlike their conversations that always are.

Trump in South Korea

Added to the wreckage of celebrity personalities facing public moral outrage over past alleged sexual improprieties, NBC News announced on November 29 its termination of Matt Lauer, citing similar improprieties for its response to a single complaint.

It is therefore fitting that our discussion today includes some reflections on America’s Great Sexual “Wreckoning” – our own term derived from the wreckage of celebrities and high profile personalities who seem to have exhibited very little “self awareness” about the inappropriateness of certain sexual conduct.

That discussion with Western University Associate Professor of Political Science, Salim Mansur, begins with a greater reckoning – a “Great Reckoning” that is already underway and is being favorably influenced by the world leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The significance of Trump’s recent Asian tour and of major revolutionary developments in Saudi Arabia has been clouded by media distractions concerning domestic sexual improprieties by local celebrities. This may be more than coincidence, for sexuality too plays a significant role in the wider politics of world affairs. Continue reading »

THE SOLUTION TO REVOLUTION: In most discussions of the day’s social ills, solutions remain elusive. Often those solutions are obvious, but for some reason are rarely or never pursued. Especially when it comes to capitalist solutions.

In his criticisms of the post-modernist and Marxist resentment that fuels anti-capitalist revolutionary protest, Professor Jordan Peterson recently remarked: “There are reasons to criticize capitalism, obviously…” though he never elaborated on what those reasons might be.

However, his comment begs the question. What’s ‘obvious’ to criticize about capitalism?

For answers to that question and to hear the unrest of the story, be sure to listen in to Danielle and Robert’s ‘obvious’ solution to that unrest which, as always, is not right wing… but Just Right.

Wilfrid Laurier University

Have you heard about the latest education crisis on campus? Even if you have, the crisis may be worse than you think.

Teaching assistant Lindsay Shepherd played a three minute video clip from TVO’s the Agenda (a state-funded television network show in the province of Ontario) in her class. She was promptly disciplined for daring to expose her Wilfrid Laurier University students to the views of Professor Jordan Peterson (University of Toronto) who appeared in the played video clip.

Called into a disciplinary meeting, it was a modern-day Inquisition, one based on as much ignorance and superstition as was the original. Shepherd secretly audio recorded the exchange and upon its release, media and public reaction has been one of deserved shock and disgust.

Yet, the real “problem” with Lindsay Shepherd’s showing of the Agenda is far more significant and dangerous than the narrow issues of “gender pro-nouns” and proper “grammar” that her inquisitors pretend it to be. Continue reading »

THE DAYCARE GENERATION: As a follow-up to their discussion about the feminization of education in elementary and secondary schools, Danielle and co-host Robert Vaughan turn their spotlight towards disturbing trends in education at the university and college levels. The behavioral problems being observed on campuses across North America appear to be symptomatic of a juvenility reminiscent of daycare centers.

In fact, could that be where the problem began? In daycare? It’s another one of those haunting questions considered by Danielle and co-host Robert Vaughan, who always point their conversation in a direction that’s Just Right!

We don't need no patriarchal education

Introducing THE DANIELLE METZ SHOW: First previewed to listeners of Just Right on October 26, we are pleased to announce the official launch of the Danielle Metz Show, now available on line through Just Right Media.

Danielle’s conversations with co-host Robert Vaughan offer listeners a quick and casual exchange of ideas about some single issue or concern of the day. And as always, it’s not right wing; it’s Just Right!

THE FEMINIZATION OF EDUCATION: As a mother of three, with one in high school and two in kindergarten, it should not be surprising that Danielle has kicked off her new series of commentaries with a discussion of education, and about what she sees happening with her kids in Ontario’s school system.

The feminization of our public schools has fostered a culture that vilifies masculinity, suggests Danielle, after observing what her own kids have been exposed to in Ontario’s education curriculum. The “feminized education environment” in Ontario today regards boys as dysfunctional girls who need to be cured of their undesirable masculine traits.

Is there systemic sexism in Ontario’s school boards? Has the feminization of public education contributed to some of society’s worst social ills?

Those are just a few of the questions tossed back and forth between Danielle and co-host Robert Vaughan in this unique exchange of issues and ideas that, as always, promises to be Just Right!

Capitalism

Disturbing poll results (conducted by YouGov) released by Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation have revealed that, as a group, more millennials prefer to live in a socialist country rather than in a capitalist one.

The declining rate of support for capitalism becomes glaringly visible along age demographics (matures: 78%; baby boomers: 66%; gen xers: 57%; millennials: 42%).

The surprising exception to the trend was found among the youngest demographic, “generation Z” whose preference to live in a capitalist society polled at 67%. While that bodes well in terms of changing future attitudes, the simple desire to live under capitalism will not make it so. The world is replete with citizens who desperately wish to live under conditions of freedom, yet that reality eludes them.

Blinded to what philosopher-novelist Ayn Rand boldly proclaimed as “the unknown ideal,” the failure to comprehend the true nature of Capitalism – as a moral system – has been the primary cause of capitalism’s decline in public acceptance. Continue reading »

Prostitute

When people of “like minds” find themselves opposed to each other on certain specific issues, there is usually a fundamental principle or concept either missing from the debate or being misrepresented / misunderstood.

Recently, two seemingly unrelated issues have offered evidence of this epistemological dilemma: (1) prostitution, and (2) immigration.

On the prostitution front, the recent murder of sex worker Josie Glenn in London, Ontario, has renewed the local debate about prostitution and the sex trade. On one side of the debate are anti-sex feminists, as represented by Megan Walker of the London Abused Women’s Center. On the other side are pro-sex feminists as well as the women who work as sex workers (as represented by Safe Space).

Is prostitution best defined simply as “sex for money” or as something that is “intrinsically violent”? Are these views of prostitution contradictory or are they simply differing perspectives on the same activity? It’s an unusual divide: feminist against feminist; women against women. Hugh Hefner

With the passing of Playboy founder and icon Hugh Hefner on September 27 at age 91, subsequent discussions about his legacy and the influence that Playboy continues to have today have been disappointingly reduced to a feminist debate about whether Hefner was a “liberator” or an “oppressor”.

In stark contrast to the myopic discussions of sex usually heard in such a restricted context, our in-studio guest Salim Mansur brings a breath of fresh air to yet another discussion considered politically incorrect: the celebration of sex between men and women.

Says Salim:

Just as Freud pointed out, ultimately everything boils down to sex. The whole of life throughout history is ultimately about the primordial basic relationship between a male and a female. Out of that relationship comes great art, great music, great painting – and out of it also comes the dirtiest violence, misogyny, abuse, excesses. That’s life.”

DIVISIVE CRISIS – WHEN UNITED WE FALL: Since the introduction of official multiculturalism, the preoccupation of politicians with race, ethnicity, culture, religion, and other group identities has now reached the level of obsession and absurdity, one that has exposed a clearly sinister objective: restricting freedom of speech.

In practice, multiculturalism is demonstrating itself to be little more than racism enforced as cultural “diversity” – offering an illusory pretense of racial harmony and “unity” that demands censorship in order to disguise the truth – that multiculturalism is the problem creating divisions and conflicts, not the solution.

Consequently, restricting free speech has become a necessity for the Left. As those who discuss these issues openly and honestly are experiencing, even Google has become obsessed with restricting discussions about cultural issues, particularly if those discussions concern Islam. Given that issues related to Islam constantly appear on the front pages of our newspapers and are the top stories in other media, it’s a discussion that simply cannot be avoided or evaded. Yet that’s exactly what’s being attempted.

Canada’s province of Quebec has surprisingly done the Right thing when it passed Bill 62, described by columnist Barbara Kay as a “religious neutrality law which will ban face covers in the giving and getting of public services.” Continue reading »

Hate

Believing that those on the Left are merely people of good will with opposing or differing opinions on the role of government, many are falsely led to believe that the Left is interested in an honest political debate and democratic consensus.

But this is simply not so.

The Left hates freedom, hates capitalism, hates Western values, and of course, hates everything that’s Just Right.

For the political Left, hate is, and always has been, the prime motivator. For the Left, violence is an acceptable means of “expressing free speech.” For the Left, principles don’t matter. For the Left, “When persuasion fails, just use force.” Continue reading »

Star Trek Discovery

The debut of the latest Star Trek series, Discovery, has certainly produced some highly polarized views. It has even generated some controversies that may have more to do with Donald Trump’s “America First” policies than with Discovery’s story itself.

It’s difficult to deny that the strongest reactions to Discovery have been the negative ones – those from fans disappointed with what they saw in the series’ first three episodes – we included. It’s also difficult to deny that whether or not Star Trek Discovery is great entertainment depends upon the eye of the beholder.

But a greater question has arisen, one concerning the Law of Identity: Does Discovery “pass the Star Trek smell test”? Is it “Star Trek”? Are there any objective ways to decide? Does it even matter? Or is this simply another matter to be settled by the “eye of the beholder”?

As a barometer of the times in which its stories were broadcast, the world of Star Trek itself has become increasingly transformed from one of individual rights and individual identity (the hallmarks of a free society) to one of group rights and group identities, with all of the implications that each suggests. Freedom of Speech

As predicted, the fallout from August 26th’s disgraceful “anti-hate” rally in downtown London Ontario is just beginning.

The big question now is this: Will this coming Saturday’s (September 23) next PEGIDA rally spark the same kind of response or will the city just simply attempt to ignore it?

OR: will Jenny Hill and PEGIDA get their much-deserved apology from the city?

Having been falsely accused by London’s mayor and most of the media of being “white supremacists” and “racists,” now that the truth is out, will those guilty of casting false accusations do the RIGHT thing or will they simply ignore reality and continue on their journey in the LEFT direction – and do the wrong thing?

As if that’s not enough to keep us all on the edge of our seats, what you’ll hear from our guests today, Mark Vandermaas of Israel Truth Week and Jenny Hill of PEGIDA, will no doubt be alarming to many – as well it should. Continue reading »

Inconvenient truths about the ‘climate change’ debate

We call it the “Greenhouse Defect.” Take it literally. Take it figuratively. Works both ways.

In the politically driven debate about “fighting climate change,” the actual “science” surrounding climate and the earth’s environment is simply not relevant.

Just ask Chris Ballard, Ontario’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. In his Sept 9 letter to the editor disputing a column by Lorrie Goldstein, Ballard wrote the following:

Blindfolded Man

Our show last week with Amir Farahi stirred up a bit of a storm, and the fallout from August 26th’s “anti-hate” rally in downtown London is just beginning.

Possible efforts on the part of the City of London to backtrack on its ill-considered motion (to ban political protest on city property based on disagreement with the ideology of the protestors) will do little to untarnish the City’s undemocratic intentions. While eliminating the motion would certainly be welcomed, it is a mistake to view such action as a sign of repentance.

The city’s outrageous motion was but the tip of a now-exposed racist iceberg floating deep beneath the surface at London City Hall. Not only was the motion specifically tied to the PEGIDA event held in downtown London on August 26, its significance was further magnified by London Mayor Matt Brown’s endorsement of the ironically named “anti-hate” rallies that were being organized to prevent PEGIDA from being heard (whether figuratively or literally).

Even worse, in their collective display of “virtue signaling,” the Leftists of every stripe who showed up to demonstrate virtue, instead demonstrated their common vice: their mutual quest for the unearned (a philosophical and moral concept that would utterly elude them). Continue reading »

The spitting image of the Left

Spitting In The Face of Freedom and Democracy

Though an isolated incident during the downtown London Ontario protests this past weekend, the image of Bailey Lamon literally spitting on the face of a PEGIDA supporter is perfectly symbolic of what the rest of the 500 “counter-protesters” at the event were doing: spitting in the face of freedom and democracy.

Not surprisingly, the counter protesters consisted of a coalition of Leftists. Clearly identified individuals and groups included Marxists, Antifa “anti-fascist” fascists, the Communist Party of Canada, the fake news media and commentators (i.e., the London Free Press), and others. Hate-and-obscenity spewing professional agitators openly displayed their hate and obscenity on signs, flags bearing the hammer and sickle were flying, and many individuals in the crowd wore Marxist Che Guevara T-shirts.

Leading and encouraging the pack was none other than London’s mayor, Matt Brown, who proudly joined them in a display of public INTOLERANCE never before witnessed in London.

“Londoners came together, they stood in solidarity and they clearly communicated that there is no place for hate, racism, Islamophobia in our community,” he proudly boasted in the Aug 28 London Free Press. Continue reading »

Antifa flag in history

You have to wonder if it’s fake news. The report that an ESPN broadcaster has been removed from the season opener football game in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia because his name is Robert Lee is yet another example of just how fascist those “opposed to fascism” are. ESPN claimed that its decision was “made collectively” which, while ironic, does not speak to the issue at hand.

Assuming the report about ESPN’s Robert Lee is factual, the story is still fake. Why so?

Because the actions taken against Robert Lee (the broadcaster) were not only ridiculous and unjust, but also based on a false (i.e., ‘fake’) narrative about Robert E. Lee’s role in the history of America. Apparently unaware that Robert E. Lee was profoundly opposed to slavery, the true racists and fascists “opposed to racism/slavery” base their intolerance and actions against a historical monument on the juvenile notion that Lee fought “on the wrong side of history.”

Apparently they are also unaware that History has no sides.

Even had Lee supported slavery, the removal of his statue still represents a moral affront to history, and to the freedom that emanated from that history in America. Continue reading »

Poor Ezra Levant and the Rebel Media. They just left. Barbara Kay just left. Brian Lilley just left. And, Alt-Right IS Just Left.

Did we get that right?

As if destined to fulfill our prophesy, recent events at the Rebel Media have demonstrated exactly what we suggested might happen to the Rebel Media: an eventual polarization and separation of the differing ideologies meeting under one umbrella of the “Right.”

That’s what happens when people who are claiming a spot on the right aren’t really right at all – like “Alt Right.”

As with the term “social justice,” “Alt-Right” is an anti-concept. All anti-concepts are, as explained by Ayn Rand, “unnecessary and rationally unusable terms designed to replace and obliterate some legitimate concept.”

Another anti-concept is what has been called the political “center,” an awkward position to occupy since it is non-existent, given the natural polarity of political options. As an anti-concept, the political “center” is a word used to obliterate Left and Right as representations of real ideas and real philosophies which are polar opposites of each other. Few things have become more perverse than the Left’s various obsessions with race, gender, sex, ethnicity, skin color, language, and “identity” issues. All in the name of “diversity.”

But “diversity” based on obsessions with race and identity is not a value. When treated as such, its pursuit places society on an inevitable road to conflict and division. And that’s exactly what we see happening across North America today.

From politics to movies and TV shows, the tidal wave of media propaganda focusing on identity politics has of late reached a crescendo. It has also become decidedly fascist, as was inevitable given the nature of the collectivist philosophy that supports these obsessions.

We see it in our newspapers and media reports each and every day: manufacturing racism to pursue fascist policies. Continue reading »
